‘Sup, people!
It’s been a dream of mine to have a show on the radio and share indie, undergound, lesser known music from around the world.
Well…here I am doing Loft Radio, which occasionally airs on 22 West 88.1 FM in Long Beach and Los Angeles! Wow. Who knew? I never thought this would be possible. Much love to Truthseekers Radio for giving me this opportunity!!
I’ve been doing the show for a bit over 2 years now… maybe 3..? Today I was working around the house and happened to listen to Loft Radio #49! I never listen to my shows, but today it popped up randomly in the background. I’m feelin’ it!
There are some nice Biggie remixes, some indie hip-hop and lovely house/dance pieces in the set. Check it out!
As always, new shows are posted on the homepage at the bottom of the page, on the Loft Radio page, on Mixcloud and air on PharcydeTV (Friday 9-10pm, Sunday 1-2pm)!!! You can also hear this show occassionally on Thursdays 6-8pm on 22 West 88.1 FM in Long Beach, Los Angeles and on 22westmedia.com.
Hello, people!
Happy new year and all that! I hope you are well.
Just in case you don't know...every year around Christmas we give something to our Mixcloud subscribers and it's a "REAL" giveaway! There is no need to do anything on social media, follow us, post anything, etc. It's just our way of saying we appreciate you.
This year was a bit hectic and it didn't happen around Christmas, but better late then never.
We are giving away hoodies! I am waiting for the final designs and it's taking longer than expected. As soon as I get them I will post something here, just for you. When you decide which hoodie you would like all you have to do is send us the following:
1. The design and color hoodie you want.
2. Your desired size.
3. You address.
The giveaway post will also give you a method of contact. Note, at this time this only applies to subscribers in the United States. But... If you're in another country let us know.
In other news... In the first quarter of this year I plan on doing another two hour show encouraging all listeners to get out of the box. As mentioned at the end of LR #136, I'll talk about 1 of my favorite destinations in the world, Guatemala. I have a dream of hanging in Guatemala with some of my listeners. I'm going to try and make that happen, if listeners are interested.
More on that later.
All the best,
Man in a Loft
A song from my latest album, Timeless V2: Introductions, is featured on Bandcamp Weekly! Wow! What an unexpected way to make my Tuesday!
The song is called Subtle Passion and I made it sometime around 2011 or 2012 after watching a number of "Blaxploitation" films. Here is an excerpt about the song from my Bandcamp page:
To be specific, I watched Foxy Brown and a number of other Pam Grier movies from the 70's. I have a thing for old movies, from the 1930's and up. They're vignettes of time and culture...but I digress.
I recall going into my humble studio and this came out. It was definitely influenced by one of the movies, I don't recall the title.
This track had nothing to do with Pam, the plot of the film or the music of the 70's. It was highly influenced by a simple quote about expecting a man to be a "rat", but discovering he was different.
That spoke to me. I hope this speaks to you.
As an indie artist, I’ve always loved Bandcamp and often dreamed of being featured on their website somehow. I never really expected anything from Timeless V2 to catch someones ear there, but I’m so happy and grateful. Just goes to show that you never know which song will help you excel. You gotta let go and just release your stuff.
Much love to Bandcamp and the staff! Check out all of the phenomenal music on this weeks Bandcamp Weekly!
